1938年春，白求恩同志来到中国，深入敌后抗日民主根据地，受到晋察冀军区司令员聂荣臻同志的热情接待和边区人民的热烈欢迎。影片表现了白求恩同志为中国的抗日战争而献身的共产主义精神，表现了白求恩在边区工作时多次把自己的血液输给伤员；冒着敌人的炮火、不顾个人安危抢救伤员的事迹。1939年11月12日，白求恩同志因救治伤员时创口感染，不幸与我们永别。**中央发专电慰问白求恩的家属。毛主席给予白求恩同志极高的评价，在纪念文章中称他为：“一个高尚的人，一个纯粹的人，一个有道德的人，一个脱离了低级趣味的人”。白求恩同志将永远活在中国人民的心里。
