寒山之麓有一旧屋改造的旅馆，旅馆楼上有一藏书室，一日下雨旅客们无聊便去藏书室打发时间，翻开了一本名叫《寒山夜雨》的书，内容如下：
寒山之夜，雷雨交作，有差役二人，解一少年犯，到一大厦前求宿。主人因知犯人是黄孝子，便请他们进屋。随后又陆续来了商人、两个行路客。孝子独居一室，半夜里房门忽开，进来一位美丽少女，调戏孝子，孝子不为所动。少女心里大为钦佩，便想救孝子逃走。同时商人房里也来了一个少妇，将自己的头颅拿下来放在桌上，商人大呼救命。大家惊醒后却并未看见头颅。没一会儿两个行路客忽然抢劫起商人，差役与之大都，被杀，而后行路客企图戏弄女眷未果反被杀。女眷将孝子解救后便只身出逃。商人醒来后才发觉自己睡在古墓旁，身旁陈尸着二盗二差，商人狂奔而去。
旅客们看完此书，黯然有感，一老人言：作者想是痛恶世态炎凉，故借鬼神而泄其愤，诸位可以不必怕啊！
A mad scientist is forced to leave San Francisco when his experiments become known. He lands on a tropical island, takes control and terrorizes the local populace. The survivor of a shipwreck washes ashore on the island, sees what is happening and determines to free the natives from his rule.
Will Hay plays a Professor teaching at a correspondence school who discovers that a Nazi agent is trying to prevent a trade treaty being signed between England and South America. The agent is posing as an economics expert seconded to the trade delegation. The professor must find the real economist and expose the agent.
